Welcome

THURMASTON OLD SCHOOL COMMUNITY CENTRE

NOW PERMANENTLY CLOSED

UNTIL SALE OF BUILDING AND SITE

The Old School closed temporarily in March 2020 to comply with government rules during the Coronavirus ‘lockdown’.

Sadly, the general condition of the building, the repairs that are required to maintain the building to a satisfactory standard, the significant cost of those repairs, and the limited finances available – particularly in the current climate – have led our Trustee Board to conclude that the Old School should remain permanently closed until the building and site can be sold.

Built in 1844 and extended in 1901, the last pupils left in the late 1960s. Until the early 1980s the Old School was used as an education resource centre, since when it has been used exclusively as a church and community centre.

We know that this decision will be disappointing to some, and we have explored various options that might have avoided the closure and sale, but have unfortunately reached the conclusion that the building is no longer viable as our church and community centre.

We are very grateful to the many people who have contributed to the work of the Old School, including those who have made use of the facilities for parties, activities, groups, and events; and past and present trustees and management committee members.

Thurmaston Parochial Church Council will consider alternative arrangements for the church groups and activities that were held at the Old School. Details of other community halls in the Thurmaston area are available from our website.

Any expressions of interest or enquiries should be made directly to our sale agents, and contact details will be published in due course.
